Jordan Rosenblum has worked as a socially engaged artist, designer, educator, and agrarian. He has developed public programs and installations, and designed educational projects that facilitate meaning-making, community, and connection. Jordan is currently training as a psychotherapist to support people’s processes of self-inquiry, resilience, and healing. He holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, an MFA from Portland State University's Art and Social Practice program, and is currently pursuing a Master of Counseling in Clinical Mental Health from Oregon State University. Forever a New Yorker, he lives in Portland, Oregon.

	Momentary MonumentsMontgomery Plaza, Portland OR, 2022In collaboration with M. Michelle Illuminato
Momentary Monuments was a public event hosted in a plaza in downtown Portland that I created in collaboration with M. Michelle Illuminato. Members of the public were invited to consider what aspect of their day they would want to commemorate. Passers-by sat down across the table from student artists from Portland State University, working together to bring the memorials into physical form. Over the course of the day, an open-air sculpture park began to develop, with miniature monuments installed on a sprawling collection of plinths. At the end of the day, the 150 sculptures were pounded back into formless lumps of clay. The project explored the idea of a public monument as temporal, highly individual, and fleeting.&#38;nbsp; 


With support from PSU Creative Placemaking pilot program which is a partnership between CUPA and the Planning and Sustainability Office. Funding for this program is from the CUPA Dean’s Office, the President’s Fall Activation Fund, and the PBOT Healthy Business Program. Additional support provided by the School of Art+Design’s Material Lab and the students in the CORE program.

	Signs of the Psychic City

Montgomery Plaza, Portland OR, 2022
In collaboration with Ashley Yang-Thompson


Based in a public square in downtown Portland, Signs of the Psychic City was a participatory event engaging Portland State University students, and the broader public. Approximately two hundred students, workers, and local residents created wayfinding signs to reveal the unspoken hidden memories, thoughts, and feelings that define their experiences of the area. A week-long installation was created with signs mounted to a series of wayfinding posts, creating a collective psychological portrait of downtown Portland.

I AM.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, Portland OR, 2018

In collaboration with Dominique Shelton,&#38;nbsp; Kim Sutherland, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School Administration, Mrs. Jones’ fifth grade class, the student designers of RECESS! Design Studio. With support from KSMoCA. 
I AM. is a project initiated by Dominique Shelton, an active parent in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School PTA. Students in the school researched and created evocative, lively portraits of local and global role models. The portraits created parallels between the good acts of people from the neighborhood, including parents and friends, to those of international icons. Working with a group of students in the RECESS! Design Studio, we designed a series of posters as part of a long-term installation in the school cafeteria. The project presented an unusual and rewarding opportunity to collaborate with a broad school community, including King School Museum of Contemporary Art, the school administration, students’ parents, and students across several classes and grades.

	New School Signs
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, Portland, Oregon, 2021

The first iteration of the New School Signs project took place in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Northeast Portland. I took a tour of the school with a group of students, and we made note of every sign that we saw. These included signs for exits and the principal's office, historical dedication placards, and signs with behavioral expectations for students. We talked about what we saw as we walked around, and how the signs related to the student’s experiences of the school. During the tour, students began to tell stories about things they had seen in the school. They asked questions about particular locations, and took issue with signs they viewed as misleading or incorrect. We returned to the classroom-studio, where students sketched ideas out for signs that would more accurately represent their experiences of the school. Based on their sketches, I designed a set of cohesive wayfinding signs and had them fabricated by a sign making company. We installed them in the school, with the intention of allowing the student’s perspectives to take on authority within the school community.

Place Biographies is a public history project, created in collaboration with Laura Glazer. Through a series of ongoing workshops, members of the public wrote historical markers for places of their own personal meaning. The workshop led participants through a series of instructions, prompting reflection on the many aspects that construct our understanding of a place. Using this material, participants wrote historical markers for their personal places, investigating the connections and incongruencies between fact,feeling, and memory, and what aspects of our personal histories to keep private or make public. 

Place Biographies explores the conventions of language used to create history, and invites the public to bring their personal expertise to become active contributors to writing history. 

For the 2021 exhibition, Viscous Time at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, we created a gallery installation that included a desk, sheets of paper, pencils, erasers, and instructions for writing a historical marker for a place of personal meaning. It provided an opportunity for museum guests to create their own placards, and hang them on the gallery wall to share biographies of their own homes. The workstation was offered in conjunction with an online public workshop at Assembly 2021, A Co-Authored Social Practice Conference, hosted by Portland State University’s Art+Social Practice program.

Some of these placards were physically made; I designed and worked with a sign shop to fabricate individual placards for long-term installation on homes. In one instance, I was able to join a project participant—Roxy Razbow—to install her placard on her childhood home.
